I got a drop. The other night, in ICC. It was just a little drop, a small thing, nothing to write home about by the name of …
Flesh Carving Scalpel, oh my god, holy bucket of snot!
Not that I’m excited or anything.
Regular readers of my blog, (all 7.3 of you), will know that I have had a dry run with regards to getting some daggers. So this baby dropped and there were two rogues in the raid – me, and some other rogue. Now normally this would be the cause of great angst to your truly as I can tell you right now that I do not have either achievement called needy or greedy or whatever they’re called. You know, the achievements for rolling 100 on something? Yeah, I don’t have those. Cause I don’t roll 100. My roll is closer to the 10 side of things. If there was an achievement for you suck at rolling then I would have had that a long time ago. That could be a good achievement line:
You suck at rolling – roll 1 on a need roll.
You still suck at rolling – roll under 10 on 20 need rolls.
You suck at rolling so much you should just stop rolling. – that would be me.
Anyway, there was no horrible random rolling problem here as this was a GDKP run. And you know I love those. So we start bidding. The rogue bids 100g, and I’m just about to bid when the hunter bids 250g. Now, I know this is a joke on her part but the other rogue immediately starts screaming and calling her a huntard. I’m assuming that he didn’t know that she is Gevlons girlfriend …
So I bid 500g, just to get things moving. He increases it to 600g which tells me that he is trying to keep the bid low. Awww … he’s trying to keep the bid low.
1000g from me.
1100g from the rogue.
1500g from me.
There is a long pause, then the rogue says; “Come on, just stop already.” Just stop already? I haven’t even got started. I’ll take this all the way to 10,000 if I have to. The rogue bids a measely 1600g. I top it off to 2000g. There is a looonnng wait. Is there a time limit on how long we can wait? Eventually the rogue says;
“Why are you even bidding, you won’t even use it!”
Ah, I see. You’re looking at my combat spec and thinking that I won’t even use it. Have you ever heard of dual fucking specs and that we are doing these raids to get drops for our little PvP mission that the guild was made for in the first place you moron??
I don’t say that of course. I just mention politely that I also have a mutilate spec. This rogue only joined the guild a week previously. He left his other guild on the realm because he wasn’t getting to raid ICC enough. Yes, you heard it right. The ganking guild is now getting recruits from the two major raiding guilds on the realm to do ICC. They were making fun of our raiding prowess a few weeks ago. We’re now 10/12 in ICC and last night we got Sindy down to, wait for it, 33,000 health before we all keeled over and died. No Alliance guild on the realm has got the Lich King down yet. It will be a source of wet dreams for us if our pvp guild can do it before the raiding guilds can. Because don’t forget that we have been concentrating on pvp gear. Some of our guildies have mega-awesome PvE setups, but a lot of us don’t. I have an ilvl 200 trinket, 213 wrists, 219 boots and 226 chest among my other crappy pieces. But still we’re 10 from 12.
So anyway, back to the bidding. His next bid is 1600g and 5 sets of leg armor, I can’t even remember what they’re called. This is amusing, I thought. Can I throw in a stack of abyss crystals? How about some fish feasts? But then Gevlon comes out with the news that his bid is now worth 2400g taking into account the AH value of the leg armor. What the fuck? It’s not valued at didley squat until he sells it. I thought this was gold bidding? Can I throw in my grandmother too? (I would have if it were possible).
So I bid 2500g. Gevlon just wanted to bump up the price as he loves weapon drop bidding wars. The dagger is mine. I hand over the gold and gaze at its icon with a tenderness bordering on madness. I will never disenchant you my beloved, never ever ever.
After the raid wraps I go and look up my new piece on wowhead. I love doing this as I get to read the long list of comments from people saying how much they love it and how they wish they could have one. But then … only 2 comments. And they’re saying how much the itemization sucks. What the fuck do they know anyway?

Grats on the loot. I thought that Muti pvp specs wanted Low OH speeds? or am I speaking out of my ass?
I’m liking the idea of the project and really considering transfering my elemental over for shits and giggles (plus I’m getting sick to death of the lack of teamwork my server shows alliance side in WG). I’ll have to check Gevlon’s page for more details π

Yes, I agree. GDKP is awesome. The one thing keeping me from joining such a project is the low realm population. (and the transfer costs)
Being stuck in a dying realm, I know what a bitch this can be. And I dont mean I dont get to have some activity on my main (raided ICC25 for a while back in jan-feb).
Its just that you can’t really play any alts and are completely dependant on the guild to provide content, which is more of a hinderance than most realize.
That being said, I’d love a place that uses GDKP any day.

@Echo;
Low off hand is fine for Muti, although 1.80 on both hands is great too. Transfer now. We’ve done all the hard work, now we’re at the point of having a real effect. This is the fun time.
@Okrane;
Yes, you’re dependent on the guild. But the guild is extremely active and focused on the common goal, which makes a huge difference. If the numbers keep growing the way they are I can see us doing 25 mans soon without any problem.

“I have an ilvl 200 trinket, 213 wrists, 219 boots and 226 chest among my other crappy pieces. But still weβre 10 from 12.”
*pffffft* Big deal. My shaman in blues, in a guild where everyone is in similar quality gear is at 6/12. You’re way overgearing ICC.

Nicely said.

How on earth did he value the leg armor? Like you said its not worth gold until it is sold. On magtheridon the ah prices are vastly distort day to day.
Also GDKP items seem to go very cheaply. Perhaps players ability to raise moderate amounts of gold is not good. May expain AH a bit π
Anyway good luck on the dagger.

The AH price of the armor kits were 150G. I meant I’d buy the kits from him at 120G, so he’d get money instantly so he could keep bidding (and I make quick 180G).
BTW you missed his line “Just give it to me plz” in the raid chat. For a moment I was hesitating between “lol” and “/gkick” but then I thought: “kicked rogue don’t bid”!
PS: Sindy wouldn’t be so happy over her 33K HP if certain rogues wouldn’t be consistently dead in early P3. I know it’s harder to avoid crap as melee, that’s why it’s great to have frost res gear.
June 8, 2010 at 11:09 am
I got myself a frost chest, and I’m trying to farm the recipie for that magic resistance potion. And I forgot all about the just give it to me line. Yeah, that was special.
June 8, 2010 at 11:22 am
If you really want the extra mile in frost resist, you can always farm the cloak frost res enchant.

On my hunter I have an extra pair of identical bracers with the Frost Resist Lining.

The good thing about the frost resist cloak enchant is that it’s rather cheap to make and you can hand it out to your whole raid.
June 8, 2010 at 11:43 am
I wouldn’t bother with the frost resistance. Rogues can take the piss with it in any case – if they start building stacks CloS it. In the first 2 phases its easier to stop attacking at 8 stacks and then in p3 keep it below 4 or focus on tombs. In 10man you’re never really going to have more than 2 melee in any case so its often better to have them on the tombs till you call nuke.
@Gevlon – there’s nothing really to avoid as a melee that ranged don’t have to avoid too on that fight
With bidding systems I never “got” the people who’d say shit like that. It’s almost an invitation to keep bidding against them just to fuck with them. I’m curious though – do you allow any rolls or limit it to MS?
June 8, 2010 at 1:31 pm
You only need the one piece of frost gear (some say not even that) just remember to feint the blasts and cloak off the stacks when they get to about 8 or maybe you’re already doing this.
Oh and a begrudging “well done” on the dagger (you bastard, I want that one to make my set)
June 8, 2010 at 1:42 pm
Ok, I managed to get the cloak frost enchant drop, but at only 20 resistance and expensive, (as you need to reenchant your cloack after), I can’t see it being very attractive unfortunately.
June 9, 2010 at 7:13 am
To give you a hint, you can actually Feint/CoS the AoE and the healer should be able to keep you up. Our guild rogue uses that on Sinddy HM and it worked wonders.
June 8, 2010 at 10:34 am
Don’t have fast hitting melee on Sindragosa on P3, if they don’t have frost resist. Just have them focus on breaking tombs.
June 8, 2010 at 11:04 am
Gratz on the dagger. Now i want to ear how it goes in the arena, will it make an huge diference? Can’t wait to know.
June 8, 2010 at 3:37 pm
Grats on the dagger! Even though my favorite spec is combat I too like to keep a decent set of daggers around if they go to greed/”rot” for PvP.
Eh, frost resist (when I say frost resist, I generally mean any 2 pieces of crafted epic level 80 STA/FrR gear) is more meant for heroic in my opinion where some strategies (like the one my guild uses) has multiple frost tombs standing in one place, which multiple tomb-hit damages would probably 1 (or nearly 1) shot people without frost resist. The frost resist can also help you sometimes drop your stacks and resist part of their dot, in addition to all of the other resisting that’ll be going on during this fight. Part of the problem you might notice is that mutilate rogues have a slightly irritating disadvantage because the combination of fast daggers + haste armors/trinkets can make their stacks add stupidly fast. Of course even combat rogues have problems. I personally DON’T feint the blistering cold and take that time to run out, because quite frankly, I have so many stacks by that time and I’ve already cloaked that I won’t be able to attack anyway, so why stand there taking damage, even if it’s only 50% of it >_>
Of course, this is all a moot point if your healers are not comfortable with the fight. Getting frost resist and making it easier for the raid as a whole is better than sitting there dying or being a mana sponge, than simply saying “if you want to win, just heal better!” .. I mean, you could do that, but of course that makes things take a lot longer than just giving in and getting the frost resist π
I’d like to add also, remember that the ICC buff is really helping raids see more content. Like a LOT. To the point of completely ignoring some fight mechanics because of that buff. But, another thing to keep in mind is, every time they increase that ICC buff by a few %, it’s a joyous day for aspiring raids – sometimes that little boost can put you over the edge and help you bag that kill.

Congratulations on the dagger, been one of those 7.3 readers for a while and your quest for a dagger has been the highlight of my week. Reading this post though, I can’t help but wonder at the greatness of GDKP and grow increasingly frustrated at my guildmates who insist that it is “The end of WoW” and “buying gear is wrong”. In cases like yours though? Thumbs up.
June 10, 2010 at 8:17 pm
I totally do not get the massive resistance to GDKP. It’s so simple and so fair. I mean there are some negative consequences to markets uber alles in the real world, but the kinds of things you need to do to avoid those (welfare state, social insurance, gradual inflation of the currency) are moot or already built into wow by blizzard.
If GDKP runs were standard, the best thing you could have in your run is a goblin who will bid up everything beyond what you can pay, because as soon as you go on a run without them, you’ll have lots of their gold to bid with.
