I’ve gone two weeks without a post, which is the longest period since I began writing in my own tiny corner of the blogosphere. I have been very busy at work, but that hasn’t stopped me writing before. I haven’t been playing much either, but that also has not previously been much of a detriment to me spewing out words. The big reason that writing has slowed is due to the simple fact that there doesn’t seem to be that much to write about. Take a look around at what other bloggers are doing and apart from a few hardcore cases that pound away regardless, I would have to say that this is a growing trend. It’s a very unexciting time in the MMO world. Rift has just about burnt itself out, a bunch of games have gone free to play, and WoW stumbles on as the de facto leader of the pack able to get away with anything for the simple fact that there aren’t that many interesting options.
I’ve been playing a bit of Civ V which had a huge patch at the end of June which seems to have taken it a step closer towards the ‘Just one more turn’ addiction level. Still many, many problems, but much better than when it was released. A big reason for me not playing is that I’m still waiting for a decent hardline internet connection for my home. But until that materializes I’m stuck trying to hold off the fucking Aztecs. There isn’t even a decent blogging war going on at the moment, a sure fire sign that people are feeling the pinch. That or they’re lying on a beach somewhere and couldn’t give a shit.
This is not one of those reassure type posts where the blogger has been silent for a while and then pops up reassuring everyone with loving platitudes that they will be back to full time posting really really soon, only to never be heard from again. But I’m not going to churn out words just to fill a vacuum. Take heed gaming companies, the market is very uninspiring at present due to the fact that you’ve all been pretty fucking lame for the last few years. So pick up your game so I can stop being a masochist on Civ V.

Uninspired seems to be the theme. What is there to get worked up over? Nothing much is happening. Even the recent 4.2 patch only triggered a few posts saying “there are a lot of dailies and this will take a long time” before people seemed to not care enough to say anything more. It’s as if the developers are equally uninspired to make anything that makes a splash.

There are a few MMOs in the works at the moment. Are you inspired by any of them to give them a box purchase when they are released? GW2, that Star Wars one (heh, I keep getting mixed up with the old KoTOR abbreviation) and there might been another one.. or was I just thinking about Diablo 3 for co-op?

Tried 4.2 for a couple of days. It’s WotLK all over again, blergh, meh, yawn, boooring.
I’m having loads of fun playing iPad games currently, maybe you should check that out.
When Diablo 3 is here, or one of the upcoming mmo’s turn out to be amazing (yeah, right), I might pick up my laptop and mouse again for gaming.

Sadly the mmo market is terrible at the moment. And will be for some considerable amount of time since GW 2 wont release till next year and Star Wars isnt releasing any information regarding their release date. Oh well back to playing The Witcher 2.

Star Wars will be terrible. It will set the gold standard for future standards of what makes a cluster-fuck.
Guild Wars 2 looks like it could be interesting. I’m going to have to do some digging on other games though.

Civ5, that great abortion huh? might have to look at it again. What happened to that pirate game you wrote about? I have been playing victoria2.

The pirate game turned out to be pretty damn lame.

Hmm as for star wars being a cluster fuck ill reserve judgement till i actually play it. Personally i think its going to be a wow clone with voice overs and story. If you are looking for a great game i seriously recomend The witcher games, they have a very nice story and the gameplay is quite nice.

I don’t want story in a game. If I want a story I’ll read a book or watch a movie or listen to the things that people tell me at work.

Oh well to each its own. I personally get seriously bored with games like Total War and Civ and so on. But then again im a big rpg fan.

World of Tanks has been fun for me. 5-15 min tank pvp battles and it’s f2p.
July 23, 2011 at 5:22 pm
I always find it interesting when people think f2p is an argument in favor of the game they’re recommending.

Yeah, those damn Aztecs. Aztecs and Mongols – I remember, even way back in the first Civ, wiping these two off the face of the planet was high on my list.
(“Wiping off” here meaning capturing every city they had, and after the war was over, building nothing but settlers in them until there were NO MORE Aztec (or Mongol) cities anywhere. Sometimes, I’d even go so far as attacking anyone who had ever taken even just one of their cities (i.e. I’d either seen them take it or it had the right kind of name), just so I could destroy them. Well, I was thirteen at the time.)
Haven’t tried anything more recent than Civ IV, though – so, well, that’s about all the comment I have here.

Speaking of game masochism, I bought the Mac edition of Civ V. I’ve never seen a game run thát horrible, even with lowest video settings. And that’s on a recent macbook pro model.
I politely asked Steam for a refund, but they told me to fuck off.
So back to Civ IV (NON-steam) it is, and yet again back to WoW.
